Tornadoes, Cyclones and Twisters
There is an area of the USA called Tornado Alley. This stretches across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Dakota. It is famous for the number of tornados that develop there, 800 a year on average.
These can range from very light ones that cause surface damage to houses to total devastation where entire areas are flattened, Debris the size of cars fly through the air and definitely a place one does not want to be.
All tornados are measured on the Enhanced Fujita Scale
What to do if a tornado is on its way to you. This is simple. Get out of there fast as soon as you are aware a tornado is on its way. Keeping a check on the weather and Emergency Services will alert you in good time.
The same applies to Cyclones. Although these can vary in strength and ferocity it is best to leave the area wheh one appears or if there is a warming issued for a cyclone.
You don't want to be doing an involuntary Mary Poppins.
